A guided experience specially for De Slatuinen, exploring the collective imagination around analogue and digital connectivity through our bodies, by Annika Kappner.
Elephants & Volcanoes
De Slatuinen is often referred to as a hidden paradise. Starting as a small lane where residents had vegetable gardens, this urban area had always been a 'green' destination. But devastating logging work by the government in 1986 brought an abrupt end to this lush wilderness. In just one week, 80 years of natural history were transformed into an unimaginative lunar landscape. Fortunately, nature recovered and the residents took it upon themselves to protect this urban jungle with its many birds, flowers, plants and small mammals, and to let nature thrive again.
Annika Kappner created a guided experience specially for De Slatuinen, exploring the collective imagination around analogue and digital connectivity through our bodies. Set in the fairy-tale nature garden, this work explores the sensory dimensions of our lived experiences and mental notions of ecosystems and networks. It is an invitation to explore different aspects of connectivity through our bodies and inner images; to collectively imagine and nurture alternative futures using different types of intelligence beyond linear thinking.
